Carthage Destroyed!
By Lucilla Salvius
Breaking news! As of this morning, it has been discovered by Livy that the city of Carthage has been destroyed and no traces remain due to tactics Rome used to conquer and erase the entire city.
This new event, now being called the “Carthaginian Peace” is revolutionary, to say the least. Marking the end of the 3rd Punic War, an anonymous source reveals the shocking truth behind Rome’s strategies. The unnamed Roman soldier who played a part in this tells us, “Trust me, it was anything but “peace”. I feel so selfish. Did we have to kill so many people just to feel validated? Please don’t tell Scipio I said that.” After hearing this and other witnesses accounts, it makes you wonder if this is a fitting name. So here’s how it really went down, according to Livy.
After the 3rd (final) Punic War, we all know how many Carthaginians died. However, this was apparently not enough for Scipio Africanus and his army. He felt that he had to really get the point across and had a not-so logical way of doing so. After sieging Carthage, the Roman army killed almost every single Carthaginian. They also managed to do this in an extremely violent and brutal way. We’ve heard that there was lots of fire and screaming, to sum it up. About 50,000 of them, however, were sold into slavery to Romans. This was not enough for Scipio and his army, however, so they continued to go on and to the unthinkable. As Romans began to wonder what was taking Scipio and his army so long before return to Rome, he threw a curveball at us all and did what nobody expected. Livy reports that on his visit to Carthage, he noticed that there was… well… no Carthage there. All that remains on the premises are 2 columns. The ground is rumored to be completely salted over, as if to completely erase the city of Carthage from ever existing. We can only imagine how much of a long, grueling process this must’ve been. This is not only unexpected, but completely world-changing. Let us know your thoughts on this matter.

Caesar Assassinated!
By Lucilla Salvius
It has become known that as of now, March 15, 44 B.C., Julius Caesar has been assassinated and found in the theater of Pompey. Confirmation on the identity of the assassin/assassins are yet to be made, but rumors are buzzing.
It has been a few hours now since discovery of Caesar’s body and we are all still in shock. The Ides of March, meant to be a celebratory time, is off to a rather glum start. When Caesar’s body was found, he was unconscious, and attempts of resuscitation were all failures. Upon close examination of his body, shocking wounds have been found. The fact is rapidly spreading that Caesar was apparently stabbed 23 times. What’s even more shocking about this, though, is that 22 of them were non-fatal. One stab wound was found in his lung was most likely the cause of his death, and it is horrible to imagine the one and only Julius Caesar lying there alone in his last hours. But why did it take so long for us to find him? Well all the streets are absolutely insane right now since the word is spreading so rapidly. It was already busy enough with the Ides of March celebrations, preventing anyone from reaching the Theater of Pompey, and besides, everyone thought that just a meeting was being held there. Nobody could’ve guessed this would’ve happened.
We have managed to hear from Marc Antony and Calpurnia, Caesar’s close friend and wife. Shaken, Calpurnia tells us she had a feeling something bad would happen today. Antony says they were even warned by an old fortune teller to, “Heed the Ides of March”. Caesar didn’t think much of this, but even though other signs led up this, nobody was prepared. What makes this assassination unlike any other is who did it though. Two of Caesar’s “closest friends” were Lucius Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus, and they turned out to be behind the assassination. This was revealed by an anonymous source who was caught and also in on the assassination. The only plausible explanations would be that Cassius, Brutus, and the other assassinators were threatened by Caesar and worried about the state of the government.
Today we lost a legend, a leader, Julius Caesar will never be forgotten.
Christianity Named Official Religion of Rome
By Lucilla Salvius
As of February 27, 380 A.D., Theodosius has declared that Christianity is the official religion of Rome by passing the Cunctos Populos because of how rapidly Christianity has been spreading.
Much debate has been going on as of late about whether to support or oppose this decision. The majority of Roman citizens are supportive of Theodosius’ decisions. This is not surprising keeping in mind how much of the population is Christian. Now that paganism and Judaism are at the lowest they’ve been, it almost seems that now would be the perfect time for this. This decision was mostly forced, though. The church has been pressuring Theodosius to allow religion into the empire, after he recently banned it. They even threatened him with excommunication, which left him with not much of a choice. It still is hard to believe that this happened, thinking back on how Christians in Rome were faced with prosecution. Whereas now this is a struggle for non-Christians and pagans.
Although this was unexpected, it was more of a gradual journey to this point, rather than it happening all of a sudden. Constantine was responsible for much of what it took to get to this point. In 312 A.D., when he was emperor, he made many positive changes for Christians For example, his ending persecution against Christians and bringing it further into the Republic were huge movements. Still, it seems as if the tables have turned. For Christians (most citizens) this is a very joyous time. With the Cunctos Populos officiating this decision, Rome can now be named the official religion of Rome.
